The Challenge
During the intensive 72-hour Netflix + Adobe Creative Jam, our team faced the formidable challenge of crafting a desktop app designed for communal content consumption. The goal was to create an application that not only facilitated watching content but also fostered shared experiences among family, friends, and community members. Setting ourselves apart in a competition teeming with talented designers required a strategic approach. We honed in on a specific audience, meticulously tailoring our desktop app to meet their unique needs. This involved a deep dive into understanding the preferences and behaviors of our target users, ensuring that our design not only resonated with them but also enhanced their collective viewing experience. The challenge was not just about creating a visually appealing app but about crafting a seamless and engaging platform that brought people together through the shared enjoyment of content.
The Solution
In selecting our target audience, we strategically focused on college students aged 18-25, recognizing the unique challenges this demographic faces in terms of geographical displacement from friends and family. Many students find themselves studying in a location different from their hometowns or home countries, creating a strong need for a platform that facilitates shared experiences across distances. As the team member responsible for branding elements, including the logo, icon design, typeface choices, color palette, and shape language, my role was crucial in ensuring that our desktop app resonated with the preferences and aesthetics of our chosen audience. I meticulously crafted visual elements that not only reflected the vibrancy and diversity of the college experience but also fostered a sense of connection. Additionally, I contributed to wireframing and layout, ensuring a seamless user interface. Through effective collaboration and time management, our team successfully completed the project within the intense 72-hour timeframe. The outcome spoke volumes as we ranked among the top 50 competitors, a testament to our strategic approach, creative execution, and ability to meet the needs of our target audience.
